CurativeDesign: Illustrating Medical Concepts is a collaboration between graphic designer and doctorate-level biology student Eleanor Lutz, with Zeeba and Arun Mathews, two physicians living and working in the Permian Basin. The Mathews family discovered Lutz’s work while developing a series of information visualizations geared towards board-review topics in medical education. They had long felt that medical education appeared devoid of visual design principles that could possibly aid in the communication of concepts. Lutz’s work seamlessly marries design thinking, typography and a love of the biological sciences into compelling works of information art. From a steampunk interpretation of fetal heart circulation, to medieval map of the various tributaries that can be affected during a stroke, the topics covered are wide-ranging and will speak to anyone interested in the health sciences, art or design.
