This year's featured artist is internationally known sculptor James Surls. On May 1, The Grace Museum opened a major Surls exhibit with an accompanying hardbound catalogue. Each of the other Triangle members will feature a sculpture and a drawing by native Texas Surls.
The art of James Surls (b.1943) has been featured in national and international solo and group exhibitions and is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of Art in New York; the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; The Denver Art Museum; the Milwaukee Art Museum; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth; the Museum of Fine Arts Houston; and the Dallas Museum of Art. Surls was awarded the "Living Legend Award" from the Dallas Contemporary Art Center in 1993 and the "Texas Artist of the Year" award in 1991.
