Art's View

Art’s View Opens at Children’s Museum

In late July, the original “Art’s View” exhibit created by and for the Fredda Turner Durham Children’s Museum.  Imaginative and interactive areas invite visitors to take part in art.  There is a scaffolding to climb into, lay on one’s back, and practice painting like a young Michelangelo.  In the Impressionist area, children can view extreme close ups of various artworks through a microscope, and then try to match what they see to a particular Impressionist painting.  In the Cubism area, children can create abstract faces by manipulating facial parts, and in the Surrealism area they can depict their own dreams in art such as Salvador Dali was known to do.  And in the Pop Art area, kids can paint right on the furniture to “make it pop”.
There are many other creative “stations” for children to experience a wide range of art that covers centuries of art history.  This wonderfully interactive exhibit is funded in part by the Arts Assembly of Midland and the Permian Basin Area Foundation in addition to these generous Sponsors:  Frances and Jack E. Brown, Janet and Tony Sam, Margaret Purvis, Zuma Renaud, and Lissa and Cy Wagner.
