The 2009 Contemporary Series will feature
five solo exhibits by artists of varied style
and approach to provide insight into
their personal journeys.
Marian Bingham
May 14, 2009 - June 28,, 2009
Marian Bingham has created a series of
paintings of horses that are both physically
dynamic and poetically evocative.
Bingham’s paintings are tactile experiences,
from whose often dense surfaces the images
seem to emerge. The horses that the artist
depicts are very much immersed in the natural
world, yet seem timeless. These are dream
horses, capable of flight and independence,
even when they carry a rider on their back.
Though Bingham was born in California
and has lived in Europe, her work reflects the
influence of spending years in Asia and
studying oriental art. After graduating from
the Branson School in Ross, California, she
studied art at the New School of NYC, in
Hong Kong and Manila. She then received
her B.A. Magna Cum Laude from
Connecticut College. She went on to do
graduate work at Wesleyan University, which
awarded her M.A. in Liberal Studies with a
Concentration in Art. Bingham exhibits in
New England, New York City, throughout
the United States, Europe and Asia.
